The Grand Am race car driven by Jared is a light, low-slung affair with a carbon fiber body over a steel frame chassis. The engine cranks out 650 hp. and speeds in excess of 200 mph. That kind of power generates tremendous heat — the temperature around the driver's seat typically reaches 180 deg. F during a race, Beyer told our intrepid reporter.
