Truly off-road

Feb. 10, 2014

Russian truck maker Kamaz’s off-road rally “Master” team was running five trucks somewhere in South America at press time in defense of its 2013 road-rally title by competing in this year’s race. Dakar 2014’s route was grueling to say the least.

Over 70 racing trucks, representing 12 different marques, set out to complete a 5,709-mi. route laid out to traverse Argentina, Bolivia and Chile, including crossing the Andes Mountains and the Atacama Desert, known as the driest place on Earth.

Belgium-based Tier One supplier Wabco noted that it equipped the Kamaz-Master entries with advanced, high-performance safety technologies, including its high-performance air compressors, advanced pressure controls for the braking and tire inflation systems, and Tristop piston-type, spring-brake cylinders.
