According to a report in today’s Wall Street Journal, Volvo AB has announced a voluntary recall of 125,000 trucks in North America because of a problem with the lighting system. The vehicles affected are model-year 2003-2008 Volvo VN, Volvo VHD, and Volvo VT trucks.
In a post on its website, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says, “the circuit protection (i.e. automatic circuit breakers) used to protect the vehicle lighting system may not provide adequate protection. If a short circuit occurs and is left untreated, components and wiring may be subject to overheating which could possibly result in a vehicle fire.”
The Wall Street Journal also reported that Jim McNamara, a spokesperson for Volvo Trucks North America, said the repair work needed to address the problem would take only 12 minutes to complete.
