Along with a $1 million annual pledge for the next three years to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, FedEx Corp. added a little something special for nine-year-old St. Jude’s patient Tyler West: It named one of its propeller-driven cargo planes after him.
Tyler, diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in 2013 and now in his second year of treatment at St. Jude, is the son of Sean West, a FedEx services security planning and engineering manager. He is the fourth recipient of the “Purple Eagle” dedication, an annual program that honors a St. Jude patient who is the child of a FedEx team member.
This particular Cessna cargo plane now features Tyler’s name on it along with the iconic logo of St. Jude.
