Celadon Trucking Services named Alcoa’s 2011 Van Carrier of the Year

Celadon Trucking Services announced that it was honored with Alcoa’s prestigious Tier 1 Van Carrier of the Year award. Celadon accepted the award at Alcoa’s annual carrier conference and awards banquet in Knoxville, TN.

“These awards are a commitment to our leading carriers that we take very seriously,” said Tim Reyes, president of Alcoa materials management. “We want to recognize their exceptional performance by using criteria that is objective, measurable and transparent. This partnership has delivered proven results for both Alcoa and our carriers and has strengthened our Alcoa Advantage in the marketplace.”

“We have worked diligently to build an inclusive transportation business model. We want to align with carriers that are invested in a long term business relationship with Alcoa,” Ed Hamorsky, director of logistics and transportation with Alcoa added, “Alcoa Transportation is extremely pleased that the truckload carriers we are honoring represent only 4% of our total carrier base, but carried 70% of our 2011 business.”

Hamorsky said that Alcoa’s Core Carrier Awards Program, which began in 2006, is a transparent measurement of carrier performance in the Alcoa North America transportation network. “Our program metrics are designed to be objective and drive a deeper business relationship with our most important carriers. We congratulate Celadon Trucking Services, Inc. for winning Alcoa’s Tier 1 Van Carrier of the Year for 2011 and encourage them to continue the disciplined execution of best practices they have adopted that has enabled them to be the best-of-the-best in their category,” he added.
