Maverick Transportation recently held a grand opening to celebrate the gleamingly modern, 13,000-sq.-ft. expansion of its driver-training center.

The Little Rock, AR-based carrier said the $4 million expansion brings the training center’s total classrooms to seven and its training bays to eight—enabling it to train 210 drivers at any one time.  Maverick noted that inside the training bays, drivers live-load all products hauled and are trained in the rigorous securement techniques for which the carrier is known.

The carrier credited Polk Stanley Wilcox Architects’ design for applying “integrated forward-thinking, environmentally conscious solutions that minimize energy consumption, such as custom louvers to filter sunlight and automatic lighting throughout the building.” In addition, many design elements incorporate products that Maverick hauls, including steel, lumber and glass.

Steve Williams, Maverick’s chairman & CEO, remarked that the expanded facility is “just one example of the commitment we’re making to be a part of the [driver] solution. We want this to be a career of choice, not of last resort.  We are committed to attracting, training and retaining the industry’s safest and most professional drivers.”
