KISSIMMEE, FL. The Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) officially opened the 77th annual TCA convention here this morning by presenting two special awards: the Past Chairman’s Award and the Highway Angel of the Year Award.

Tom Kretsinger, Jr. of American Central Transport, Inc. and Tom Schilli of Schilli Transportation Services presented the Past Chairman’s Award to the late John Kaburick of Earl L. Henderson Trucking Company.

The award was accepted by Kaburick’s widow, Carolyn, and son, Josh. It is the highest honor the organization gives and it brought attendees to their feet in recognition of Kaburick’s contributions to TCA and the industry as a whole.

Attendees were on their feet a second time to offer a standing ovation for the truck driver named Highway Angel of the Year.

Lance Platt, head of EpicVue, the new sponsor of the Highway Angel program, presented the award to David Ragland of Kelle Transport for his brave rescue of an infant and child from a burning car.

“It is an honor to be here to celebrate the good your drivers do,” Platt told the audience. Illness prevented Ragland from attending to accept the trophy, which the TCA hopes to deliver to him in person later in the year
