Due to be released this summer, a cargo sensor for the GE VeriWise trailer tracking system can be equipped with a camera to capture real-time photos of a trailer interior. GE TIP has also announced that its un-tethered monitoring system can now be installed in refrigerated trailers as well as dry vans.

Demonstrated at the GE Global Research Center in Niskayuna, NY, the new cargo sensor mounts in the nose of a trailer and projects twin laser beams along the trailer floor to detect loads. Reports from the sensor can be included in daily position messages, or the system can be polled to check load status. It can also be programmed to transmit alerts based on events such as loading or unloading. A camera option would allow a fleet to remotely see activity or load status based on requests or event-based alerts.

The trailer leasing and services company also demonstrated a remote RFID tag reader currently under development. The reader is designed to work with GE's two-way eTag RFID system, sending collected cargo data over the VeriWise system.
