J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc. has begun installing FleetView 3, the latest generation of Terion Inc.'s untethered trailer tracking system. The new tracking units are being installed in Hunt trailers used by its truckload and dedicated contract operating groups. Others moving to the new generation FleetView 3 system include XTRA Lease and the private fleet operations of Bridgestone/Firestone North American Tire.
Recently acquired by Swift Enterprises, truckload carrier Calhoun Transportation Services has installed its first wireless tracking and data communications system. All 110 trucks in the fleet are now using the PeopleNet G2x onboard computer and wireless communications services, cutting fleet cell phone charges by $7,000 a month, according to CEO and president Gregory A. Swift. The move also allowed the fleet to cancel plans for an additional dispatcher and help it improve driver productivity, he says.
DoorTracker, a wireless sensor for monitoring trailer doors, is now available for Cadec Corp.'s Mobius TTS onboard computer system. The new sensor option can monitor and record events for up to three trailer doors, providing the driver with an in-cab visual indicator of door status and audible alerts on the OBC if doors are breached. www.cadec.com
Quickway Carriers, a dedicated carrier with over 500 temperature-controlled trailers, is moving to the Maddocks TruckMate for Windows (TM4Win) fleet management system. Headquartered in Nashville, Quickway has 11 terminals in the Midwest and South serving major retailers and grocery chains.
