Dedicated Logistics Inc., a 3PL provider that operates a number of dedicated fleets, has chosen PeopleNet as its standard onboard computer and mobile communications provider. The company has integrated the system's PACOS geofencing feature with internal software to automate load status reports. Future plans call for implementing eDriver Logs, the mobile system's electronic driver's log feature.

Builders FirstSource, a manufacturer and supplier of building materials, has begun installing Teletrac FleetDirector units in its private fleet of 1,500 trucks. The wireless fleet management system will give the fleet the ability to monitor idling, receive maintenance alerts, automate state fuel tax reporting, improve vehicle security and increase dispatch productivity, according to Salim Baltagi, vp of logistics.

With 500 power units in three separate divisions, Fox Leasing Inc. of Rancho Cucamong, CA, has chosen Maddocks TruckMate for Windows as its fleet management software system. Fox operates over-the-road, local drayage and parcel van services, which will each be able to use the system's dispatching and operations software.

Two munitions haulers have chosen the SkyBitz trailer tracking system to keep close tabs on their hazardous cargos. R&R Trucking is a Missouri-based arms, ammunition and explosives hauler, the second largest in the country, will equip 550 trailers with the system. Tri-State Motor Transit, also based in Missouri, is installing 1,400 SkyBitz tracking units in its trailers. Tri-State is the country's largest TL carrier of dangerous and sensitive materials for the Depts. of Defense and Energy.

SiriComm will offer Maptuit's FleetNav Express online routing tool for owner-operators and small fleets over its Wi-Fi network as a reseller. The FleetNav Express is designed to create directions and optimized fuel plans for single- and multi-point routes on truck-designated roads. SiriComm said its nationwide network will grow to over 1,000 hotspots. www.maptuit.com

Florilli Transportation LLC, a refrigerated TL carrier based in Iowa, says it will add GeoLogic's MobileMax multi-mode wireless communications and tracking systems to the 225 tractors in its fleet. “We are anticipating measurable benefits … in terms of fuel efficiency, vehicle utilization and enhanced customer service,” says Murry Fitzer, CEO.

Ordering heavy-duty aftermarket parts over the Internet from multiple trading partners can be accomplished with a single connection using Direct-Connect, a web-based front end developed by Management Information Systems Group Inc. The system handles parts inquiries, quotes, orders, acknowledgements and shipment status for special orders.

Knight Transportation has purchased Terion FleetView 3 trailer tracking systems including cargo sensors and the tractor ID option for its entire fleet. The truckload carrier will integrate the location and load status information generated by the system with its AS/400 dispatch and operations software, according to Kevin Knight, chairman and CEO.
