Using the Inmarsat satellite network for packet data, Satamatics Inc. has developed the first satellite modem to offer tracking, monitoring and remote start for Carrier Transicold refrigeration systems.

The new Satamatics SAT-201 modem is the first to run Carrier's new third party communications protocol, according to the communications company. Under a new agreement with Carrier, Satamatics will use the modem to integrate its tracking and control services for mobile refrigeration with Carrier truck, trailer, container and rail units.

The integration and new Carrier protocols reduce onboard system complexity, cut hardware and wireless costs, and improve overall performance, according to Satamatics. The Inmarsat network offers global coverage and real-time communications, the company says.
