Financial services firm UBS Warburg forecasts that the government agencies, consumers, fleet operators and individual users' need for fast and accurate real-time traffic data will create a $7-billion traffic information market in the next few years.
In a recent study called “United States Traffic Data Market,” UBS Warburg said that fleets alone will drive the demand for high-level telematics, especially navigation systems, in the near future.
The company said that over the next four to five years, fleets and other logistics users of traffic information will demand both incident data and speed data. It expects at least several companies to emerge that will provide both as part of full nationwide traffic packages that include predictive traffic reports and alternative routing suggestions.
