The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has withdrawn a proposed rulemaking that would have added one inch to the distance width exclusive devices could extend beyond the allowed width of commercial vehicles. The rule was originally proposed to meet harmonization requirements of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), but FHWA now says there is no evidence that the exemption is needed.

The National Truck Equipment Assn. (NTEA) has re-launched its Web site, ntea.com, simplifying navigation and adding new content. New features for the redesigned site include Chassis Corner, with product and corporate news from chassis member companies; Truck Equipment Outlook, with economic forecasts and analysis of commercial vehicle markets; and Capitol Hill, with reports on industry legislative issues.

Chattanooga-based truckload carrier U.S. Xpress Enterprises has reported purchasing a 49% minority stake in Arnold Transportation Services for $6.4 million.
