The National Safety Council has awarded its 2002 “Green Cross for Safety” medal to Gregory T. Swienton, chairman, president & CEO of Ryder System, Inc. The council said it honored Swienton for his “exemplary commitment to workplace safety and corporate citizenship.”
New Penn Motor Express has completed renovation and expansion of its terminal in Reading, PA. The expanded facility has 68 dock doors and over 17,500 sq. ft. of dock space, increasing New Penn's freight-handling capacity by more than 60%.

USF Bestway has opened a 25-acre, 167 loading door facility in Fontana, CA. The new building represents a 400% increase in loading doors and a 500% increase in yard space over the facility it replaced. The terminal will focus on freight needs in the Los Angeles basin.
The Dallas Morning News has renewed a multi-year, multi-million dollar delivery service contract with Ryder System Inc. Ryder manages the delivery of The Dallas Morning News from its printing plants to 15 circulation distribution centers.
