Continental Tire has launched the first in a series of its next generation fuel-efficient tires with the Continental HSL2 (Heavy Steer Long Haul).

Designed as an all-position steer tire for long-haul, over-the-highway use, the HSL2 features an innovative compound for an increase in removal miles along with qualities necessary to increase fuel economy, Continental said.

The tire uses Continental's FlexLock technology, which offers an interlocking mechanism that promotes even tread wear across the footprint while increasing stability, the company said.

Additional vertical sipes assist in the prevention of excessive heat buildup in the tire's shoulder. Another benefit is the Visual Alignment Indicators located on the shoulder ribs. The VAI allow users to visually inspect the tire and identify tracking irregularities within the first 5/32 in. of tire wear so adjustments can be made to the vehicle, Continental said.

“The new HSL2 is a great addition to the premium lineup of Continental truck tires,” said Clif Armstrong, marketing director for Continental Tire the Americas. “By combining the latest technology in compounding and tread design with features like FlexLock technology and VAI, the HSL2 meets the needs of the long-haul fleet segment.”

The HSL2 is available in 11R22.5, 11R24.5, 275/80R22.5 and 285/75R24.5 sizes. www.conti-online.com
