Nextel Communications Inc. of Reston, VA, has agreed to offer vehicle location service from New York-based Darby Corporate Solutions (DCS) on its nationwide packet data network. Under what the companies call a “co-marketing agreement,” Nextel and DCS say they will work together to serve a variety of transportation-based industries with the services, especially trucking.
The DCS Diplomat application provides real-time vehicle tracking and fleet management tools for a mobile work force, with fleet users also able to tap into a range of Nextel services, including Nextel Direct Connect, a digital two-way radio feature that supports unlimited communications among users in the same fleet. Other available Nextel services through this partnership include digital cellular and text and number messaging.
