Auto hauler Performance Transportation Services says it will install the @Road GeoManager wireless tracking and management system in 1,500 trucks operated by its three subsidiaries: E and L Transport, Hadley Auto Transport, and Leaseway Motorcar Transport. The company also plans to deploy @Road's on-board diagnostics and reporting system.

The dedicated and truckload carrier Evergreen Transportation Inc., has begun installing PeopleNet g3 onboard computing and mobile communications consoles in its fleet of 475 power units. The AL-based carrier has been a long-time user of McLeod software, but the PeopleNet installation represents its first adoption of mobile communications and computing technology, according to PeopleNet.

Both the truckload and LTL operations of Averitt Express are moving to activity based costing systems from Transportation Costing Group. The carrier cited the TCG system's ability to reconcile results with its general ledger and to allocate overhead costs in detail as primary reasons for adopting the new applications.

Schneider National will provide all of its shops with access to Tractor-Trailer.net, a web-based service and repair information source for heavy-duty tractors as well as dry vans and refrigerated trailers. The company services 11,000 tractors and 48,000 trailers operated in a variety of applications, and also provides service for many of its independent contractors.

Dedicated carrier Canada Cartage has begun installing the RealDispatch fleet management system in 45 trucks providing distribution services in Ontario, Canada. Headwater Technology Solutions says the system includes wireless onboard hardware that allows it to capture vehicle operation information, while also automating driver logs and timesheets. Real-time routing with GPS tracking is also provided.

Bob Reiher has been named director of software development for Karmak Inc., a provider of computer and business management systems for the heavy-duty truck industry. He comes to Karmak from Smurfit-Stone Container Corp.
