Paired with Symbol Technologies SPT 1733 handheld, it can also support GPS-based tracking and capture legal signatures for proof of delivery, as well as two-way messaging.

A web-based application, etrace allows dispatchers and others to access information with just a browser and Internet or intranet connection. Prebuilt SmartForms can be easily adapted for custom fleet requirements. For example, fleets can set up screens to provide drivers with stop details, trip statistics, driving directions, electronic bills of lading or a wide variety of route and business data.

Etrace supports XML, EDI and text file formats for easy integration with back-office accounting and management systems, according to Gearworks. The web-based architecture also means it can be set up to run on a single PC or an entire company network.

The mobile portion of etrace can operate over most of the commonly available wireless networks. Handhelds without wireless connectivity can also be used to collect route data for back-office applications.
