Industry veteran Lana Batts has joined the board of directors of PeopleNet Communications (www.peoplenetonline.com), the Minneapolis-based provider of wireless vehicle tracking and mobile communications services.

“Lana is well-known and well-respected in the trucking industry,” says PeopleNet Communications CEO John Sarto. “She has always been an advocate for the industry, as well as a dynamic leader, two characteristics that will be of great benefit to PeopleNet,” he added.

From 1994 to 1999, Batts was president of the Truckload Carriers Association, which, under her leadership, grew into a dynamic organization that became known for innovative programs for improving driver recruitment and retention, reducing waiting time at shippers and receiver docks, and establishing benchmarking data.

Batts recently formed a transportation consulting firm, Batts and Associates. Prior to that, she served for seven months as executive vice president and chief development officer for Transportal Network, an Internet B2B startup company that shut down in October 2000.
