A high-performance video surveillance system that replaces Ethernet wires with wireless data capability has been developed by business partners Axis Communications and Proxim Corp. The new wireless wide area networking (WWAN) system allows fast and inexpensive installation of video security systems, according to the partners.

The new system bundles Axim network video products, which use IP (Internet protocol) standards, with Proxim's Tnunami WWAN technology for high-speed IP data transfers. The combination makes it practical to install IP-based video surveillance in areas were cabling is not practical, including on bridges, in parking lots, between buildings or across large terminal compounds.
