Shell is now offering its first fully synthetic heavy-duty engine oil, Rotella T Synthetic. The 5W-40 oil combines better cold-temperature engine starting capabilities with advanced soot-handling capacity.

The stricter emissions requirements that go into effect this year have led to design changes in diesel engines that will increase the amount of soot entering the engine and, thus, the oil. Shell says it developed the heavy-duty synthetic oil to protect against engine wear and viscosity thickening caused by higher soot levels.

Shell adds that the new product meets or exceeds the requirements of American Petroleum Institute (API) CH-4, CG-4, CF-4, and CF standards. It also meets or exceeds the Cummins CES 20076, Mack EO-M Plus, Caterpillar, Detroit Diesel, and International requirements.
