The Truckload Carriers Assn. (TCA) announced the two grand-prize winners of its National Fleet Safety Awards at it Annual Banquet in the Bahamas last month. Stagecoach Cartage & Distribution won for truckload companies with under 25-million mi. annually, and Bison Transport won for companies with total mileage over 25-million mi.
The organization highlighted specific aspects of each winner's safety program. Stagecoach was noted for making major investments in technology for its vehicles and for paying close attention to the mental and physical health needs of employees. Bison Transport, winner of its category for the third straight year, was noted for its development of a “Driver Risk Level Assessment” that awards point values for positive and negative risk factors and for using programs tailored to individual needs to bring drivers to acceptable risk levels.
TCA also announced that the late Richard “Buck” Jenkins, co-owner of Diamond Transportation System, was given the Past Chairman's Award, presented to industry leaders who make a significant contribution to the business community. Jenkins, a TCA member for 36 years, was the organization's officer & treasurer from 2000-2004 and chairman of the Bylaws Committee from 1992-1993 and 1997-1998. www.truckload.org
