The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMCSA) motor carrier safety progress report saw a slight dip in both the absolute number of large truck fatalities and fatality rate in 2005 compared to 2004.
The preliminary 2005 data said that there were 5,212 large truck fatalities and a fatality rate of 2.34 per 100 million truck vehicle miles traveled, compared with 5,235 fatalities and a fatality rate of 2.37 in 2004. The year-over-year improvement did not reflect positively with 2003, however, with 5,036 fatalities and a fatality rate of 2.31.
