The Texas Dept. of Transportation announced it will extend its reduced toll promotion for truckers using the State Highway 130 and State Highway 455E toll roads to bypass Austin for another three weeks.
The promotion reduces tolls to trucks to the same amount as cars, a 67% savings for truckers using the bypass. The initial program was meant to relieve traffic congestion on I-35 during the holiday season.
The reduced tolls will now be available at least until Jan. 25. A DOT spokeswoman told the Austin Business Journal that the toll reduction could become permanent in the future due to the success of the promotion, which brought a 39% increase in truck traffic to the toll roads between Dec. 21 and Jan. 4.
