A new web portal equipped to download real-time tracking data gathered by SkyBitz aimed to let anyone monitor the 3,000-plus mi. journey of the U.S. Capitol's “National Christmas Tree” from Eagar, AZ, to Washington, DC, this holiday season.
The portal — TracktheTree.com — was set up to provide tracking data, complete with a detailed street-level map of its most recent location, via its satellite-based system, along with photo galleries and blog entries. At press time, the tree was scheduled to arrive in Washington on Nov. 30, in plenty of time for the traditional tree lighting.
The tree, which was cut down Nov. 7, is an 85-ft. blue spruce and was to be transported by Phoenix-based Southwest Industrial Rigging.
