Bendix Spicer Foundation Brake LLC has announced that its Bendix ADB22X air disc brake is now optional on steer and drive axles for Kenworth and Peterbilt Class 8 tractors.
In addition, the company said its Bendix-Dana wheel-end joint venture is “in active discussions with all major truck OEMs to make its air disc brake products available.”
Testing on the ADB22X has demonstrated that it “comfortably” meets NHTSA’s 20-30% stopping-distance reduction proposal, eliminates brake fade “with no degradation of stopping power,” and allows “straight, stable stops due to high brake efficiency and low hysteresis,” according to Bendix.
Bendix invested $6 million in its Frankfort, KY, plant so that it could begin production of the ADB22X air disc brakes earlier in the year.
