BP debuts partial-synthetic Castrol oil

According to BP Lubricants USA Inc., its new Castrol Hypuron S is a partial-synthetic diesel engine oil designed for high performance in heavy-duty engines. BP said it is blended with a precisely engineered partial synthetic base stock to provide “superior performance and protection for engines while enhancing component and equipment life, lowering maintenance costs and increasing profitability.”

BP also stated that the performance of Castrol Hypuron S “allows fleets to extend service intervals [but recommends performing oil analysis before extending intervals past OEM recommendations] while maximizing equipment life, therefore reducing total cost per mile.”

In addition to providing exceptional dispersancy to manage the higher soot levels generated by EGR engines, according to BP, Castrol Hypuron S offers robust detergency to neutralize higher acid levels and is formulated with low-ash technology to cut oil consumption, reduce piston deposit formation and increase oil film strength. The company noted that the “progressive formulation” of Castrol Hypuron S allows it to meet the newest specifications from both Mack and Caterpillar.
