IMMI, a manufacturer of commercial-vehicle safety restraints, recently introduced its advanced rollover protection system, which it says is the world's first rollover safety technology specifically for the commercial trucks. The system will soon be made available in Freightliner’s Century Class S/T and Argosy Class 8 trucks.

“Rollover testing gave us the opportunity to study how the head and upper body impacting the vehicle interior resulted in unsurvivable head and neck injuries,” said Mike Leakey, IMMI's commercial vehicle division market manager. “Our engineers saw an opportunity to develop this new restraint system to save truck drivers' lives and reduce injuries.”

The rollover protection system is composed of three integrated components: a rollover sensor, an inflatable tubular structure (ITS) and a S4 seat pull-down system. When the sensor is triggered, the ITS deploys across the window and side interior to protect the driver’s head, and the S4 system tightens the seat belt.
