George E. Imperatore, co-founder of famed North Jersey-based LTL carrier A-P-A Transport, died on Friday in Boca Raton, FL. He was 82.
According to the Associated Press, in 1947 he and four brothers borrowed $500 to start the company with a used Army truck. The company eventually became the 38th-largest carrier in the country, but it closed in 2002.
Imperatore served as executive vp and sales director before he retired in 1982.
