Engine maker Cummins Inc. has submitted its third engine platform, the 11-liter ISM, for certification under Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) new diesel emission standards that go into effect on October 1.
To date, Cummins' heavy-duty ISX and medium-duty ISB trucks engines have been certified to the new EPA 2.5 gram NOx+NMHC standard. The ISM engine, which produces between 280 hp to 385 hp, is aimed at the short-haul trucking, vocational, construction and bus markets.
Cummins added it will offer a restricted 400 hp and 450 hp rating for the ISM for motor coach, recreational vehicle and fire truck applications.
