The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance has published a new edition of the North American Standard Out-of-Service Criteria Handbook, which includes a pictorial addition with color photos of Out-of-Service violations.

The spiral-bound Handbook costs $35 each to nonmembers, $23 to Associate Members and $18 to enforcement personnel. Quantity discounts are available for orders of 50 or more.

The Out-of-Service Criteria also is available on CD-ROM, which includes the U.S. and Canadian version of the CVSA OOSC and the U.S. CFR49. Users can load the Criteria to a computer and search topics using a word search engine and create notes pages in areas of interest. The CD-ROM version also includes pictures. The cost: $90 each to nonmembers, $75 to Associate Members and $50 to enforcement personnel.

CVSA also offers a Cargo Securement Training Program available to members for $149 each and $199 for nonmembers. The program includes: an Instructor’s Manual, PowerPoint presentations, Cargo Securement Working Load Limit Calculator, CVSA Cargo Securement Guidelines, Driver Handbook, 2004 Out-of-Service Criteria, training videos on DVD and more.

A Cargo Securement Working Load Limit Calculator, a software program that includes data on more than 7,000 pieces of heavy equipment and their weights, is included in the program but also available for purchase individually. The software helps users calculate a cargo’s working load limit so they can determine whether the restraint devices, chains and nylon straps are adequate to hold the load. The software is available at $49 each.

The revised CVSA Cargo Securement Guidelines also are available individually at $20 for members, $30 for nonmembers.

And still another newly-revised safety item, the North American Standard Inspection schematics, which are two-sided laminated documents that outline the North American Standard Inspection process, is available. Truck and motorcoach versions are $2.50 for members and $3.50 for nonmembers.
