Delphi Automotive Systems has announced it will become a gold-level sponsor of the Trucker Buddy International program, designed to promote interest in fourth-graders in communications and other areas.

Delphi will use its wireless mobile technologies to take the Trucker Buddy pen pal program from pen and paper to the age of wireless and instant communications. The company is providing its Communiport Truck Productivity Center for the drivers to show how information can be seamlessly sent and accessed through cyberspace.

“The technology will give the class exposure to the importance of time management and the convenience of being in touch by voice and data anytime, anyplace or anywhere,” said Bob Schumacher, Delphi business line executive of wireless products.

The Trucker Buddy program matches classes of students with professional truck drivers to exchange information. Traditionally, the drivers write weekly about their travels and send post cards or letters to the class describing their experiences.
