Miami-based DHL Worldwide Express has tapped Rafael Couttolenc to be its senior vp for Latin America, responsible for the company's operations in the Latin American region.

Formerly regional director for the Northern Cone, which includes Mexico, Central America, the Andean Pact and the Caribbean, Couttolenc was responsible for building the DHL business through the creation and development of strategies to consolidate the express business.

He first joined DHL in 1994 as vp-services in Mexico, where he was responsible for commercial, operational and services areas. In 1996, he became managing director for DHL operations in Mexico and made that country one of the most important markets for the company, achieving one of the highest returns on investments. Prior to DHL, he worked for Chrysler for over 15 years.
