The U.S. Dept. of Energy said the average price at the pump for a gallon of diesel fuel dropped four cents in the past week to $1.444.
According to the department's Energy Information Administration, the price is the lowest it has been since the start of 2003. The price is also the lowest it has been since it hit $1.44 December 23.
The price has dropped 32.7 cents in the past nine weeks.
Drivers in New England are paying the highest price, $1.612, followed by the Central Atlantic region at $1.607.
The Gulf Coast region has the lowest price, $1.366.
