The Dept. of Transportation (DOT) is moving ahead with plans to relocate and consolidate its 7,000 employees to new headquarters in the Southeast section of Washington, DC. The Dept. of Transportation (DOT) is moving ahead with plans to relocate and consolidate its 7,000 employees to new headquarters in the Southeast section of Washington, DC.

According to The Washington Post, DOT signed a 15-year, $825-million lease for an 11-acre section of the Southeast Federal Center, located in Anacostia, a depressed area of the nation's capital.

DOT plans to build two 11-story office buildings totaling 1.35 million sq. ft. to house its employees, which are presently in four office buildings. The new DOT headquarters should be completed in the next four to five years.
