Emery Worldwide, the global heavyweight transportation subsidiary of CNF Inc., will next month launch a southern border expansion of its customs brokerage unit to provide full customs brokerage service coverage along the U.S.-Mexico border to key cities in California, Arizona and Texas.

The company said its expansion will establish a fully functional brokerage, trade compliance and logistics network along the border to meet the rapidly growing demands of U.S.-Mexico trade.

The expansion will begin with the opening of a customs brokerage office in San Diego. Locations in Brownsville/McAllen, TX and Tucson/Nogales, AZ, will follow during the third quarter of 2001. Completion of the expansion, combined with the company's existing locations in El Paso and Laredo, TX, will enable Emery to provide its shipping customers with full customs brokerage service and supply chain management solutions along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Emery also announced that Lori Rodriguez has been promoted to manager, Southern Border Network, for the customs brokerage unit. She will report to Jeff Hammond, senior director of Emery's customs brokerage unit.
