Jost fifth wheels have been previously available in the aftermarket through participating Kenworth dealers.

The wheel's cast ductile iron top plate features a cushion ring, designed to protect the wheel's throat during coupling and reduces friction between the top plate and trailer king pin, according to Rich Carroll, Jost’s vice president of sales and marketing. In addition, the wheel can be rebuilt in less than 30 minutes without having to remove the wheel from the truck. This results in maintenance savings over the vehicle's life as compared to older competitive designs, he said.

Kenworth also offers a low-lube Jost model that is designed for mated tractor-trailer combinations, such as beverage and tanker applications.
