New Penn Motor Express Inc. has completed several upgrades to its information technology (IT) systems.

Lebanon, PA-based New Penn has installed onboard computers in the cabs of its P&D fleet trucks. Linked to its web site to provide real-time shipment status updates for customers, New Penn said its P&D drivers also use the computers to communicate with dispatchers.

New Penn has also built a backup computer center at a remote location to ensure uninterrupted service for customers. The data center has complete redundancy built-in so that if communications lines are cut, or another disaster occurs, the company can switch to the backup system.

Also, New Penn has upgraded its web site servers to provide an increase in processing speed.
