Nexterna has unveiled OptiTrac 3.0, an upgrade of its location tracking system. The new version is designed to facilitate mobile resource dispatch by displaying maps that pinpoint the real-time location of individual field vehicles or entire fleets with detail down to the street address or crossroad.

Nexterna said that wilt the upgrade, a dispatcher can also specify a customer address, and the software will display a map indicating the service vehicles nearest that location.

OptiTrac 3.0 integrates Global Positioning System (GPS) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technologies with wireless data communication technology to track and monitor service vehicles. GPS data is captured by on-board sensors and transmitted wirelessly via Nexterna's equipment to Nexterna's operations center.

Nexterna offers access to the information, which is stored in a secured database, by authorized customers on any computer running the OptiTrac Resource Manager and connected to the Internet.

OptiTrac 3.0 employs the latest "geocode" technology, which translates GPS latitude and longitude coordinates to street addresses or vice versa, providing improved visibility of exactly where and when service vehicles are working.

Collected data can also be used for historical reporting and trending purposes to provide detailed information about the location, use and operation of each service truck or additional data about service territories or customer locations.
