President Bush’s nomination of Utah Governor Mike Leavitt to head the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) got a thumbs-up from the Truck Renting & Leasing Assn. (TRALA).

“We think he’s a good choice,” Peter Vroom, CEO of TRALA, told Fleet Owner Still, Vroom thinks Leavitt’s stated philosophy of moving towards “a balance” between the needs of the environment and business can only help foster better communication between EPA and trucking.

“I think he will definitely help continue to develop more collaborative efforts between our industry and the need to reach certain environmental goals,” Vroom explained. “There will be more sensitivity to the balancing of industry needs with the environment – that trend is good.”

The U.S. Senate must approve Leavitt before he becomes EPA's head.
