New York-based Vivendi Environnement, an environmental services provider, said it is donating a pumper truck to the New York Fire Department to replace one of the rescue vehicles lost during the events of September 11 at the World Trade Center.

Vivendi said the NYFD lost approximately $47 million worth of equipment on September 11, including more than 40 rescue vehicles ranging from pumper and ladder trucks to rescue units and ambulances. Other destroyed emergency vehicles from police and medical services are said to push that lose to well over $50 million.

“The New York Fire Department lost a significant number of rescue vehicles on September 11 and has a great need to replace these vehicles as quickly as possible,” said NYFD commissioner Thomas Von Essen. “We are very thankful for Vivendi’s generous gift. This donation of a pumper unit is a step toward getting the FDNY get back to full capacity.”
