Refrigerated carrier Wispak Transport has announced a new driver compensation program, that consists of bonuses for independent contractors as well as an increased per-mile pay schedule and complete benefits package for company drivers.

“It’s not often that both contractors and company drivers find a place small enough to be treated with respect and big enough to pay them well,” said director of transportation services John Hiscox. “But because we are a subsidiary of Emmak Foods, they get both.”

Benefits for company drivers include life, health, disability and dental insurance, vacation and personal days, and a safety bonus program. In addition, all drivers get newer equipment, which include condo bunks.

Contractors using a Wispak Transport trailer now earn $0.91 per mile, drivers using their own trailer are paid $1.01 per mile. Contractors will also receive “drop” pay at $50.00 per stop, paid lumpers, a graduated per mile fuel surcharge, free fuel tax calculation and filing, and a safety bonus.
