An integrated fleet management suite has been released as an Internet-based application service provider (ASP) service by software developer XATA.

As an ASP, XATANET can be scaled up or down easily to handle fluctuations in fleet size, and users need only pay for the applications they need, according to the developer. Applications available over the XATANET Web service include paperless driver logs and fuel tax reports, vehicle tracking, 2-way messaging, black-box recording of vehicle activity and events, and diagnostic warnings.

The system is designed to work with the newest version of XATA's own onboard computer and Symbol Technologies' MG Plus handheld. The company is also developing a version for Qualcomm's MVPc onboard device. As a Web-based ASP, XATANET can be accessed by fleet managers via a standard web browser.

A network-independent platform, the new ASP can be paired with wireless LANs (local area network) as well as land-based and satellite wireless communications systems.
