Kohler Power Systems has announced it is entering the auxiliary power unit (APU) market, offering an air-cooled, 5-kW APU in a “side-rail mounted size.” The APU will be available later this year.

Kohler said that with dimensions of 27” x 26” x 23” and a weight of under 350 lb., the APU is one of the smallest and lightest air-cooled generators on the market. It provides 120-volt AC and 50-Amp DC power.

According to Kohler, its direct-drive alternator eliminates alternator belts, thereby increasing reliability and reducing maintenance. The oil service interval is 500 hours.

“The Kohler APU provides peace of mind that comes with a focus on reliability and ease-of-use, backed by an industry-leading distribution and service network of more than 500 Kohler distributors and dealers nationwide,” said Chris Baldwin, director of Kohler’s Mobile Generator Business.
