Penske Truck Leasing is highlighting the winners of its 2006 National Technical Challenge, held at its Charlotte, NC location, to recognize the top truck maintenance technicians in its organization.

Ken McKibben, Penske’s senior vp for field maintenance, said the annual challenge is designed to provide employees with an opportunity to test their knowledge and skills through written and “hands on” assessments via two separate competitions: one for preventive maintenance and the other covering vehicle diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.

McKibben said roughly 31% of the company’s total technician workforce—about 1,600 techs—competed in this year’s challenge, the most since Penske started the program in 1995.

Gary Donahue of Penske’s Syracuse, NY, location won the preventive maintenance part of the challenge, while Robert Anthony of the Allentown, PA, facility and Edward Glaessman of the Easton, PA, facility took top honors in the vehicle and diagnostic troubleshooting competition.

“We’re very proud of the winners and all the competitors because we depend on them to deliver the best maintenance service in the industry,” said McKibben. “That’s why the technical challenge is so important to us: it offers our service team an opportunity to test those skills so they can keep delivering the highest level of quality and customer service.”
