Dry van spot rates just reached a new record high, and refrigerated rates aren’t far behind, according to weekly reports from FTR Transportation Intelligence and DAT Freight & Analytics. 

Last week, dry van and refrigerated rates saw sharp jumps ahead of the July 4 holiday. Meanwhile, flatbed rates dropped ever so slightly for the third week in a row, which is normal for this time of year.

Here is how rates and volumes changed across the three major spot market equipment types:

Dry van rates and volumes

According to FTR: Spot rates rose just over 11 cents last week. Year over year, rates are up 42%. Dry van loads dropped almost 20%.

According to DAT: National linehaul spot rates rose 7 cents last week, averaging $2.49 per mile.

Refrigerated rates and volumes

According to FTR: Spot rates jumped nearly 25 cents last week. Rates were just over 39% higher than last year. Refrigerated loads dropped almost 9%.

According to DAT: National linehaul spot rates rose 10 cents last week, averaging $2.85 per mile. 

Flatbed rates and volumes

According to FTR: Spot rates dropped just over 1 cent last week. Year over year, rates were up 51%. Flatbed loads fell just over 33%. 

According to DAT: National linehaul spot rates rose 3 cents last week, averaging $3.00 per mile.
