Flatbed spot rates just saw their second-largest drop, according to weekly reports from FTR Transportation Intelligence and DAT Freight & Analytics. 

Dry van and refrigerated rates also fell, but ones that were more typical for the season. The total market broker-posted rate dropped 14 cents, the largest single-week drop since 2021. The market will likely see declines again next week, though not as steep as this week. 

Here is how rates and volumes changed across the three major spot market equipment types:

Dry van rates and volumes

According to FTR: Spot rates dropped just under 14 cents last week. Year over year, rates are up 48%. Dry van loads rose 19%. Decreases were seen nationwide, though they were far worse in the Southeast and Midwest. 

According to DAT: National linehaul spot rates rose 1 cent last week, averaging $2.50 per mile.

Refrigerated rates and volumes

According to FTR: Spot rates dropped over 26 cents last week. Rates were 42% higher than last year. Refrigerated loads rose just over 10%.

According to DAT: National linehaul spot rates dropped 2 cents last week, averaging $2.83 per mile. 

Flatbed rates and volumes

According to FTR: Spot rates dropped almost 15 cents last week. Year over year, rates were up 49%. Flatbed loads rose almost 31%. 

According to DAT: National linehaul spot rates held steady last week, averaging $3.00 per mile.
