Spot rates are continuing to experience seasonal drops, according to weekly reports from FTR Transportation Intelligence and DAT Freight & Analytics. 

Total market broker-posted rates fell almost 5 cents, a smaller decrease compared to the previous week. Across the board, spot rates and loads are seeing decent-sized drops. Only along the West Coast did dry van and refrigerated rates rise. Flatbed rates rose only in the Northeast.

Here is how rates and volumes changed across the three major spot market equipment types:

Dry van rates and volumes

According to FTR: Spot rates dropped just over 8 cents last week. Year over year, rates are up about 47%. After a rebound in the previous week, dry van loads dropped almost 8%. 

According to DAT: National linehaul spot rates dropped 6 cents last week, averaging $2.44 per mile.

Refrigerated rates and volumes

According to FTR: Spot rates dropped just over 8 cents last week. Rates were 41% higher than last year. Refrigerated loads dropped almost 7%.

According to DAT: National linehaul spot rates dropped 2 cents last week, averaging $2.80 per mile. 

Flatbed rates and volumes

According to FTR: Spot rates dropped just over 3 cents last week. Year over year, rates were up about 50%. Flatbed loads dropped just over 7%. 

According to DAT: National linehaul spot rates dropped 5 cents last week, averaging $2.95 per mile.
