Founded on this date in 1905, the Society of Automotive Engineers has become the leading developer of technical information on all types of self-propelled vehicles, including trucks, automobiles, aircraft, and marine equipment. The non-profit organization, which is headquartered in Pittsburgh, PA, currently has 85,000 engineers and scientist as active members.
Centennial celebrations planned for this year include the SAE 2005 World Congress, to be held at Detroit’s Cobo Center April 11-15. The event will feature a 100th anniversary exhibit, debut of a documentary covering the groups first 100 years and release of an illustrated history.
The 100th anniversary will also be marked at SAE’s 2005 Commercial Vehicle Congress and Exhibition in Chicago next November.
