Heavily traveled Highway 91 to close overnight

Jan. 28, 2013

The California Dept. of Transportation (Caltrans) plans two overnight freeway shutdowns of heavily traveled Highway 91 in the stretch between 14th St. and Central Ave. in Riverside for late January, the agency announced.

The westbound lanes of the 91 will be closed starting at 11 p.m. Jan. 28 until just after 4 a.m. Jan. 29. The eastbound lanes will close just after midnight — early Jan. 29 — and reopen about 5 a.m. that day. The pattern will be repeated starting at 11 p.m. Jan. 29 through the early morning of Jan. 30.

The closures are to allow Riverside Public Utilities to reroute power lines for the $232 million project to add a carpool lane to the freeway in each direction through downtown Riverside, according to a Press-Enterprise report.
